A pair of ancient Greek bronze chamfrons, or prometopidia, frontlet horse armor for a two horse chariot (biga), each with frontally facing repoussee heads of hoplites, wearing Chalcidian helmets with ram’s head cheek pieces; the men’s eyes inlaid with ivory.
Ca. 500 – 460 BC.
In all, only four ancient Greek pairs of prometopidia with helmeted heads are known, all of which are in museum collections except for this pair.
