Greek Bronze Greaves

A pair of ancient Greek bronze greaves of full length anatomical form covering the knee cap to the ankle with articulated musculature with a drilled and riveted border that once secured the inner lining.

Ca. 6th – 5th century BC.

Height: 17 1/2 in. (44.5 cm).

Full length greaves formed part of the panoply of armor worn by the Greek hoplite of the Archaic period through the 4th century BC. Smaller greaves and ankle guards remained in use through the Hellenistic period in Southern Italy.
