Greek Bronze Panoply of Armor

An ancient South Italian Greek bronze panoply of armor consisting of an emphatically muscled cuirass and back plate, the side plates with wave pattern borders, the nipples inlaid with copper; a Chalcidian type helmet with volutes and hinged cheek pieces, and a pair of anatomical full length greaves.

Magna Graecia.

Ca. 350 -300 BC.

Formerly in the collection of Axel Guttmann, Berlin, AG 311 (1944 – 2001), acquired in 1994; at auction Christie’s, London, April 28, 2004, lot 102; subsequently in a California private collection.
