An ancient Hellenistic Greek iron helmet of the Attic type, with a frontal visor with raised voluted band above, pressed flat on top of the dome with side holes for attaching cheek pieces.
Ca. 300 – 250 BC.
Though already developed in the 5th century BC, the Attic helmet type became popular in the Hellenistic Period, especially among the armies of the successor kingdoms to Alexander the Great. It was essentially based on the late Chalcidian type with hinged cheek pieces and openings for the ears, but it came to include a voluted integral visor and crest. It was often made of iron.
