Attic Lekythos

A large ancient Attic Greek lekythos, the body solid black with a single meander band below the shoulder; five palmettes above.

Athens, Attica.

Ca. 5th century BC.

Height: 11 3/8 in. (28.9 cm.)

The lekythos was used to hold olive oil in antiquity and was often left as a grave offering.

Formerly in the collection of Jerome Eisenberg, New York.
