An ancient Scythian bronze Kuban style helmet of conical form with a mid-rib rising from the semi-circular eye holes to a point at the crown with separately made large curved cheek pieces that were once riveted to the sides.
Ca. 5th – 4th century BC.
The nomadic Scythians of the Eurasian steppes came into contact with Greek colonies on the northern Black Sea coast in the 7th century BC. They acquired arms and armor from Greek workshops and modified them to their needs as horsemen. They also developed their own armor industry creating the distinctive Kuban style helmet so-called after the North Caucasian area where they have been found.
