An ancient Roman marble statue of a young Silvanus with masses of long curly hair bound with a fillet. He is nude except for a goat skin (nebris) around his neck, filled with fruit, which he holds up with his left hand.
Ca. 2nd century AD.
The name of the god in Latin literally means, “of the woods”. This woodland tutelary deity was a protector of the woods, fields and flocks. He was depicted as a youth in an animal skin bearing the fruit of the forest.
Formerly in a French private collection.
