An ancient Greco-Egyptian terracotta head of Harpokrates. The child god wears the double crown of Upper and Lower Egypt.

Alexandria, Egypt.
Ca. 3rd - 1st century BC.
Height: 2 1/2 in. (6 cm).

Harpokrates, the infant son of Isis and Horus was a symbol of youth and fertility. He was essentially a patron deity of childhood, especially popular in the Late Period.

Formerly in a Connecticut private collection, acquired in the 1960's.
