Cypriot Bichrome Chalice
An ancient Cypriot bichrome chalice on a low foot, with abbreviated handles set close to the body, and bands of linear decoration and concentric circles in black slip and added red. Cypro-Archaic. Ca. 750 - 600 BC. Height: 5 in. (14 cm). Intact. Bichrome ware originated in early Iron Age Phoenicia and spread to Cyprus where it became for a time the dominant pottery style. Formerly in the collection of Jerome Eisenberg, New York.
