Minted 49-48 BC to fund the invasion of Italy.

Caius Julius Caesar, the son of an old Patrician family, rose quicly in Roman politics to become a member of the 1st triumvirate. He subjugated Gaul and invaded Britain. A civil war with Pompey began following his return to Italy. He won by 45 BC and was murdered on Ides of March, 44 BC.
