Roman Silver Spoon
An ancient Roman silver spoon (cochlearium) with an almond shaped, scooped bowl supported by a long slender handle with an incised scroll pattern at the join, tapering to a point. Ca. 1st - 3rd century AD. Length: 5 5/8 in. (14.3 cm). Intact. Cf.: Naples Museum, inv. no. 25413, 25416; Heerlen Thermenmuseum, The Netherlands, inv. no. 837. Formerly in a New York private collection, acquired from the Merrin Gallery, New York in the 1970s.
