Attic Red-Figure Lekythos
An ancient large Attic Greek red-figure lekythos with a nude Eros flying to the right, hands open, toward a sprouting tendril. Attributed to the Icarus Painter. Athens, Attica. Ca. 470 - 460 BC. Height: 6 7/8 in. (17.5 cm). The lekythos was used to hold olive oil in antiquity and was often left as a grave offering. Published: J. Eisenberg, Art of the Ancient World, vol. IV (1985), no. 96. Formerly in a New York private collection.
