Olmec Terracotta Seated Figure
A Pre-Columbian Olmec terracotta cross legged seated figure, the surface of polished cream-colored slip, the crown of the head left rough indicating a now lacking headdress, the elongated, artificially deformed head with almond-shaped eyes. Central Mexican Highlands. Ca. 1200 - 800 BC. Height: 3 3/4 in. (9.5 cm). Intact. Formerly in a New York private collection, acquired from Merrin Gallery, New York, late 1960s.
