Sumerian Gypsum Female Head
An ancient Sumerian gypsum head of a female with inlaid almond shaped eyes outlined in black, thin carved lips, a slight protruding chin and a prominent straight lined nose. Her wavy hair defined by incision and bound in a band. Mari. Early Dynastic Period. Ca. 2900 - 2600 BC. Height: 1 1/2 ( 4 cm). Formerly in a New York private collection.
