Roman Marble Sarcophagus FragmentAn ancient Roman marble sarcophagus fragment with a carved relief scene depicting a centauromachy; a fallen nude young warrior still holding his sword, lies below a standing centaur. Ca. 2nd century AD. There are only a few known examples of Roman sarcophagi with representations of centauromachies, (battles between men and centaurs). cf.: a sarcophagus with a scene of the Battle between Lapiths and Centaurs, Ostia Museum, Italy.
