Egyptian Faience Harpokrates Amulet
An ancient Egyptian blue faience amulet depicting the child god Harpokrates nude, wearing the sidelock of youth. Late Period, ca. 700 - 30 BC. Height: 1 7/8 in. (4.8 cm). Intact. Harpokrates, the infant son of Isis and Horus was a symbol of youth and fertility. He was essentially a patron deity of childhood, especially popular in the Late Period. Formerly in a New York private collection, acquired in London in the 1990s.
