Egyptian Faience Offering Cup for Seti I

An ancient Egyptian blue-green faience funerary cup with Hieroglyphic inscription naming the contents including the cartouche of the prenomen of Pharaoh Seti I, Menmaatre, "Established is the Justice of Re."

New Kingdom, 19th Dynasty,
Ca. ca. 1290 - 1279 BC.
Height: 1 3/4 in. (4.4 cm).
Intact.

These cups contained the various sacred perfumed oils and unguents that were used in both daily use and funeral ritual, they often were labeled with the contents.

Formerly in a French private collection; subsequently in a New York private collection.
