Rev: Phalanthos, holding helmet, astride dolphin left, TARAS below.

Minted in Calabria, 333-330 BC.

Tarentum (Taras) was founded in 706 BC by Dorian immigrants from Sparta. It became a commercial power and a sovereign city of Magna Graecia, ruling over the Greek colonies in southern Italy.
