Roman Marble Portrait Head of a Woman

An ancient Roman portrait head of a woman. Her hair is styled in a series of even waves that fall loose around the ears and are coiled to form a flat spiral at the nape of the neck.

Ca. 244 - 249 AD.
Height: 10 5/8 in. (27 cm).

Possibly a portrait of Marcia Otacilia Severa, wife of Philip I, or a contemporary.

Formerly in a New York private collection; previously in a French private collection.
