An ancient Assyrian fragment of a clay tablet inscribed with a cuneiform text mentioning the goddess Ishtar.

Middle Assyrian Period.
Ca. 1300 - 1000 BC.
Height: 2 5/8 in. (6.7 cm).

Translation:
The goddess Ishtar, Queen (of the town) Arbela...
Foremost of the Gods...[then speaks of her heavenly aspect as the Goddess of Love]... In the sky, upon the stars...

Formerly in a California private collection, acquired from Charles Ede, Ltd, London in 2000, inv. no. 1118.
