Etruscan Bucchero Chalice
An ancient Etruscan bucchero chalice supported by an integral four-part base with pairs of caryatids molded on each stem, terminating on a ringed base. Etruria. Ca. 625 - 550 BC. Height: 6 5/8 in. (16.8 cm). Bucchero ware was the distinct local pottery type of ancient Etruria. It is distinguished by its delicately potted black earthen fabric as well as its glossy, burnished black surface, often with incision work.
