Attic Black-Figure Olpe

An ancient Greek Attic black-figure olpe depicting Dionysos offering a skyphos of wine to Ariadne, with a dog below and grape vines around. The neck painted with meander, dot, and checkerboard patterns.

Athens, Attica.
Ca. 500 BC.
Height: 9 in. (22.6 cm).

For a similar scene with Dionysos and Ariadne on an amphora in the British Museum (B256), cf. Corpus Vasorum Antiquorum, London, British Museum 4, III.H.e, pl. 63, fig. 2A-B.

Formerly in a New Jersey private collection, acquired in 1994 from an American private collection formed in the 1970s.
