Egyptian Bronze Statuette of a Pharaoh

An ancient Egyptian bronze statuette of a Pharaoh striding, his left leg forward, his right arm at his side. He is bare chested with a broad collar and shendyt kilt. He wears the blue crown or war crown (khepresh).

Late Period, ca. 700-30 BC.
Height without base: 5 1/4 in. (13.3 cm).

The blue crown (called the khepresh) was worn by pharaohs to symbolize military power when going into battle.

N 506), both dating to the Ptolemaic Period (332-30 BC). An example in wood of much earlier date (ca. 1390-1352 BC) but in the same pose wearing the blue crown is in the Brooklyn Museum, inv. no. 48.28.

Formerly in a New York private collection, acquired at Hotel de Ventes, Paris, January 29, 1989; previously in a French private collection.
