Luristan Bronze Belt

An ancient Luristan sheet bronze belt with an overall low relief geometric decoration. The belt is perforated at both ends for attachment.

Ca. 1500 - 800 BC.

Overall length: 30 in. (76,5 cm).
Intact.

Luristan objects, including impressive and numerous decorative bronze horse trappings and weapons, are found mainly in western Persia. Luristan artifacts are most likely the work of the ancient Medes, an Indo-European group that eventually dominated Persia.

Formerly in a New Jersey private collection; previously, Sotheby Parke Bernet, New York, March 1, 1984, lot 442.
