Constantinople, Justinian I, ca. 527-565 AC.

Justinian I (ca. 482 AD - 565 AD) (Justinian the Great) attempted to restore the Roman Empire by re-conquering the lost western half of the empire. Justinian rewrote Roman law known as the Corpus Juris Civilis. , which would later influence European and Russian civil law. Justinian was a prolific builder, under his reign the Hagia Sophia was completed.
