Roman Marble Aphrodite and Eros
An ancient Roman marble statuette of Aphrodite and Eros. The goddess of love stands nude with her weight on her left leg. At her feet Eros lifts a Corinthian helmet toward her.
Ca. 1st century BC - 1st century AD.
The Aphrodite and Eros depicted here is a smaller version of a sculpture now in the Louvre colloquially called the "Venus at Arms" (see no. 456 in A. Delivorrias, et al., "Aphrodite" in LIMC, vol. II).
Formerly in a New York private collection since 1995 or earlier.
