Obv: Head of Alexander draped in a lionskin, facing right.
Zeus enthroned holding eagle and scepter, L and torch in field.

Struck ca. 336-323 BC.

Alexander III, son of Philip II, was born at Pella on 20 July, 356 BC. He was tutored by Aristotle. In 334 BC at the age of 23 he invaded Persia, by 330 he defeated Darius III and sacked Persepolis. He continued to India, in Babylon in 323, he died on June 10 at the age of 33.
