Canaaninte Bronze Baal Pendant

An Ancient bronze pendant in the form of the head of the god Baal with a prominent nose and a gold earring.

Ca. 1500- 1200 BC.
Height: 1 3/8 in. (3.2 cm).

Baal was an ancient Semitic god of fertility, weather (rain, wind, lightning, seasons) and war, He was regarded as leader of the Rephaim (ancestral spirits). Baal was revered especially in ancient Canaan and later Baal Hammon was worshipped as the central god by the Punic people of Tyre and Carthage.

Formerly in an Isreali private collection.
