Amlash Bronze Stag

A small ancient Amlash bronze statuette of a stag with prominent upright antlers.

Luristan, northwestern Persia.
Ca. 1500-1000 BC.
Height: 3 1/4 in. (10.5 cm).
Intact.

Luristan objects, including impressive and numerous decorative bronze horse trappings and weapons, are found mainly in northwestern Persia. Luristan artifacts are most likely the work of the ancient Medes, an Indo-European group that eventually dominated Persia.

Formerly in the H. Gundersheimer collection, acquired from J. Schulman & Co., Amsterdam, in the mid 1970's.
