Campanian Net Lekythos

An ancient Campanian Greek black glazed net lekythos, an olive oil container, with a tall trumpet-form lip. The body is covered with crosshatched black lines in a net pattern over a reserve ground.

Campania, Magna Graecia, Southern Italy.
Found near Lecce.
Ca. 300 - 250 BC.
Height: 6 1/4 in. (15.9 cm).

Formerly in the Toledo Museum of Art, accession no. 1924.108; purchased from Miss Mary Swett, Brookline, Massachusetts in 1924; previously in the collection of Mrs. Francis Alexander, Florence, Italy, acquired from Sigismondo Castromediana, Duke of Caballino.
