Alexander the Great Coin in Gold Pendant

Silver tetradrachm, set in 18 karat gold pendant setting.
Obverse: Head of Alexander draped in a lionskin, facing right.
Reverse: ALEXANDROU
Zeus enthroned holding eagle and scepter, monogram below throne.

Struck ca. 330-300 BC.

Alexander III, son of Philip II, was born at Pella on 20 July, 356 BC. He was tutored by Aristotle. In 334 BC at the age of 23 he invaded Persia, by 330 he defeated Darius III and sacked Persepolis. He continued to India, in Babylon in 323, he died on June 10 at the age of 33.
