Etruscan Black-Figure Hydria
A large ancient Etruscan black-figure hydria decorated with a frieze of animals on the shoulder and a procession of hoofed dancing satyrs on the neck. The decorative panel on the front of the body is obscured by misfiring in the kiln in antiquity.
Ca. 500-490 BC.
The vase is by the Micali painter or one of his close followers active at the turn of the 6th century BC in Tarquinia.
Formerly in a California private collection.
