Sinu Gold Whistle

A Pre-Columbian gold whistle, solid cast, in the form of a shaman with a condor seated atop his head. The shaman is in the process of transformation to an animal.

Ca. 700-1500 AD.
Height: 4 1.2 in. (11.5 cm).
Weight: 91.5 gm.

The gold industry of the Sinu of the northern Colombian highlands was highly developed. They produced many small intricately made ornaments of personal adornment often depicting caciques or chieftains with zoomorphic attributes.

Formerly in a New York private collection.
