Three Urartian Bronze Pins

Three ancient Urartian bronze cloak pins with large round finials worked in repousse with images of ibexes, gazelles, birds and sphinxes.

9th - 7th century BC.
Maximum height: 6 3/4 in. (17 cm).

Urartu was an Iron Age civilization in Eastern Anatolia, which rose to power in the 9th century BC, and was conquered by the Medes in the early 6th century BC. They are known for their high quality metal work.

Formerly in a California private collection, 1980's.
