Joseph Coscia Jr. is Chief Photographer at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. During his twenty-five years there, he has been exploring the relationship of the changing effects of natural light on stone surfaces. His work photographing classical sculpture in various settings has led to a fascination of the qualities of light on sculpture in varying conditions.

His series "LIGHT ON STONE" features photographs of museum sculpture outside the context of the museum setting. Mr. Coscia manipulates lighting conditions to transform and animate the marble sculpture. His images draw out hidden details often overlooked when viewing sculpture as a whole.

Joe received his MFA from Hunter College in 1989 and his BFA from Kutztown University of Pennsylvania in 1982. His photographs have appeared in numerous publications and museum books, most notably 'Light on Stone' published in 2004, a photographic essay with introduction by Elizabeth Milleker.
