Herodean Oil Lamp
An ancient Herodean oil lamp with a large filler hole and a wide nozzle.
The Herodian Kingdom replaced the previous Hasmonean Kingdom of Judea with the ascension of Herod the Great in the mid-first century BC. Herod the Great and his dynasty were supported by Rome. His sons continued to rule with limited autonomy until 92 AD, when Herod Agrippa II died and Rome assumed full authority over Judea.
Formerly in a New Jersey private collection.
