Egyptian Wood Sarcophagus Panel with the Goddess Nut

An ancient Egyptian wood interior sarcophagus panel painted with a large figure of the goddess Nut in profile on a white background. She is depicted with a water jar on her head and she wears checkered gown below here exposed breast. Her wig painted in blue is adorned with a red band with a lotus at the front.

Late Period, ca. 664-332 BC.
Height: 27 1/2 in. (70 cm).


Formerly in a New York private collection, acquired through inheritance from a collection formed prior to 1948.
