An ancient Roman bronze furniture attachment in the form of a Venator wearing a tunic training a bear cub with a staff.

Ca. 1st - 3rd century AD.
Height: 2 5/8 in. (6.9 cm).

Venatores (hunters) specialized in animal hunts as well as circus tricks with ferocious animals during Roman gladiatorial games.

Formerly a California private collection, acquired in the 1980's.
