Copper As, 25 mm, 8.49 gm. Obv: IMP CAESAR VESP AVG COS VII Laureate head of Vespasian right. Rev: S C Spes advancing left holding flower. Vespasian was born in Falacrina, he rose to command during the invasion of Britain in 43 AD. After a bleak period as a mule dealer, he was appointed by Nero to quell the Jewish Revolt, which he did. He was proclaimed emperor in Alexandria, defeated Vitellius at Cremona, and died in Reate. C. 457.
