Reverse: Crested Illyrian helmet in 3/4 view right within single lined incuse square.

Alexander I, of the Argead Dynasty, king of Aigai, enlarged and strengthened the Macedonian Kingdom following the retreat of the Persians in 479 BC. He was the first Macedonian king to place his name on his coinage.
